UEFA to Share Euro 2024 “Golden Boot” Among Six Players.

UEFA Euro 2024 saw a historic first for the "Golden Boot" award, which recognizes the top scorer of the tournament. Here's what went down:

Six-Way Tie:This year, an unusual situation arose. Instead of a single winner, a whopping six players finished the tournament tied with the most goals – each scoring three.

Who are the Golden Boot winners? The prestigious award is shared by:
  • Harry Kane (England)
  • Dani Olmo (Spain)
  • Jamal Musiala (Germany)
  • Georges Mikautadze (Georgia)
  • Cody Gakpo (Netherlands)
  • Ivan Schranz (Slovakia)

Rule Change? Previously, the tiebreaker for the Golden Boot was the number of assists a player had. However, for Euro 2024, UEFA decided to award the trophy solely based on goals scored. This change meant that even though Dani Olmo had more assists than some of the other players, the award couldn't be decided outright.

This unique outcome highlights the tight competition and impressive performances from several players throughout the Euros. It also raises questions about the future of the Golden Boot tiebreaker rule.

For the first time in history, UEFA will share the “Golden Boot” of Euro 2024 among six players if none of them score a fourth goal in the Spain vs. England final.

Previously, ties were broken by considering assists and minutes played, but UEFA has abolished this rule, potentially leading to the creation of six “Golden Boots.”
